George Orwell was the pen name for Eric Arthur Blair. He is most known for his two novels named Animal Farm and Nineteen Eight-Four. Both in which were published towards the end of his life. He was born June 25th, 1903, and passed away January 1st, 1950, at he age of 46 because of tuberculosis. Blair left writers with six key rules to writing. 1. Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print. 2. Never use a long word where a short one will do. 3. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out. 4. Never use the passive voice where you can use the active. 5. Never use a foreign phrase, scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalant. Lastly 6. Break any of these rules before saying anything outright barbarous.

Summary Nineteen Eighty-Four is a novel written by George Orwell in 1948, and published in 1949. It is about a man named Winston Smith that lives in a one room apartment that he chose because it has a some space off to the side that the telescreen cannot see. In this non visible space he writes in a journal explaining how the world is all wrong and that Big Brother and The Party are lying to everyone. One day WInston meets O'Brien, who is an inner party worker. He feels as though O'Brien is against The Party the same as he is. Later O'Brien comes to Winston to set up a meeting with him. There he swears in Winston and Julia into The Brotherhood. Winston and Julia are then givena book that lists all The Brotherhoods truth behind their motto. Next, Winston and Julia are taken by surprise by the Thought Police. O'Brien was secrectly one of the Thought Police members and turned them in. Winston now is to be tortured until he will accept what The Party tells him to believe. He still wont give up. Winston would rather die than to live in a "fake" world. Finally he is taken to room 101 where everyones worst fears come alive. In this case it is rats. Winston is to have rats eat his face unless he is to believe. So the only way they tell Winston he can save is own life is to be self-centered and have Julia's face eaten by rats instead. So Winston gave his loved ones life for his own. This novel ends by Winston in a bar, drinking and playing chess. All of a sudden he looks up to see Big Brother on the telescreen. But now everything was alright, he loved Big Brother.
